My 22 hour flight has just turned into a 50ish hour epic journey.

So

Kinja'd!!!

here’s the story of this crazyness. Our co-pilot had a seizure. And since you can not fly without a co-pilot, we’ve been hanging out at the New Mexico airport for the last two hours. We’re going to be arriving at San Francisco at 11:30am, however because of this we’ve missed our connecting flight to osaka.

So we’re going to be in San Francisco for 8 hours, we’re then going to catch a plane at 7:30. We’ll arrive at Tokyo at 7pm, we then have to spend the night in tokyo to catch a flight to osaka at 7am to arrive at 8:30am the next day. This has turned into insanity.

On the upside I had an amazing Calzone at tbe New Mexico airport. That said I’m probobly not going to be able to get any okonomiyaki in Osaka, the home of okonomiyaki. :(

Well, at least you weren’t on the flight where the pilot died . There’s a reason there are two pilots up front. Before you get too upset, be glad you’re living in an age when, even with difficulty, you can get from wherever you started in 50 hours. Think about those poor sods who had to take trains and steamships. The same trip would have taken up to two weeks or more. And, if you haven’t read it, I would highly recommend Around The World in Eighty Days. It’s a really good book, and is more of a travelogue than an adventure story. It will put your journey into a bit of perspective. Save travels!

When I flex to Norway several years ago it took us 2x as long as it was supposed to, bad weather in chicago sent us to to springfield, then when we got back to chicago our connecting flight to Oslo was long gone, so we had to catch a flight to Germany where I was frisked and questioned by the bomb squad because of the video equipment I had with me before I could find another flight to Norway. We my wife and I got to Oslo no one knew were our bags were for 2 days. Good times.

So did I, and the picture up top is what came up - they all look so delicious. I'm used to eating pancakes which are drizzled in maple syrup, but savoury pancakes seem like an incredible idea.

Ahhh air travel screw ups... got to love them, or you’ll go made. I remember getting up early for a 1hr drive to the Dusseldorf airport, to fly to Philly. After spending all day in airports and circling over various airports across Europe I ended the day in a hotel in Frankfurt... a 2 hour drive away from home. But I could not go home and start over from Dusseldorf, and could not get my checked bags or I would loose the cost of my ticket. The next day I finally made it to the US, but in DC not Philly. By the time I did get to Philly it was 3 am, and since I was so late my car rental was canceled and trying to get a limo at that hour for get about it. I ended up paying $400 for a suite in the Marriot in the airport for 2 hrs of sleep.

Have fun In Osaka, Not sure if it is still there, but I used to love this taco and Burrito shop near the Hard rock cafe. And your making me drool for some okonomiyaki, fantastic at 3am after a night out drinking... mmmm. My favorite was in Hiroshima though.

Isn’t it amazing that they freak out about some of this stuff, even though they probably see it at least once a month? My dad has a CPAP machine and he gets questioned every single time, at every single airport.

It’s all part of the adventure!

Good luck with San Francisco. I’ve flown through there a bunch of times and probably only get through without any delays about one in every ten times.
